Sir,
I have received your despatch 2010 of the 8th May reporting the circumstances under which the Hongkong convicts in the Straits were released from confinement.
I should be glad to learn whether care was taken to ascertain that the convicts in question had good conduct and merited the indulgence shown to them on account of the lengthened period of imprisonment which they had served in the Straits Settlements.
